Sudan Participates in Arab Conference of Chiefs of Correctional Institutions, Cairo

Lieutenant General Yasser Omar Abu Zeid, Director General of the Prisons Forces, headed the Sudanese delegation participating in the 23rd Arab Conference of Heads of Correctional and Rehabilitation Institutions, which started sessions in Cairo, Egypt, on Monday .
The delegation also included Major General Dr. Taj Al-Sir Babiker Sir Al-Khatim, Director of the Prisons Forces in Khartoum State.
In his address to the conference, Lieutenant General Abu Zeid emphasized the Prisons Forces’ readiness to learn from Arab expertise and unifying visions to confront common challenges. This, he stated, would enhance the effectiveness of correctional institutions and contribute to achieving societal security and the desired stability. He reiterated the Prisons Forces’ commitment to continuously develop institutional performance and embrace new developments in the field of rehabilitation work, according to a press release issued by the Police Press Office.
The Sudanese delegation presented a specialized working paper at the conference, addressing Sudan’s pioneering experience in the field of penal and correctional institutions. The paper highlighted key rehabilitation and training programs offered to inmates, ensuring their rights and dignity are protected within correctional facilities, in accordance with relevant international conventions and agreements.
The paper explained that the Sudanese prison authorities have made significant strides in developing the correctional system, which aims to reform inmates through high-quality awareness programs designed to rehabilitate and reintegrate them as active and productive members of society after serving their sentences.
