Zain Sponsors World Blood Donor Day, Reaffirms Commitment to Supporting Healthcare Through Sustainable Community Initiatives

The Sudanese mobile telecommunications company Zain Sudan sponsored an official celebration organized by the Federal Ministry of Health to mark World Blood Donor Day, underscoring the strength of the strategic partnership between the public and private sectors in promoting public health and encouraging voluntary blood donation as a vital means of saving lives in Sudan.
The sponsorship reflects Zain’s long-standing record of supporting Sudan’s healthcare sector through tangible contributions over many years. The company has consistently organized annual blood donation campaigns in which its employees voluntarily donate blood to support the Central Blood Bank, reflecting its belief that giving back is a core institutional value.
Zain has also previously contributed to the establishment and equipping of a blood bank in Al-Hasaheisa, helping to strengthen healthcare services in the states. More recently, the company organized a successful blood donation campaign in Shendi in partnership with medical students from University of Shendi, providing a model for integrating private-sector efforts with academic and youth initiatives in service of the community.
In this context, Federal Minister of Health Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim said that the celebration represents the culmination of national efforts to promote a culture of voluntary blood donation.
The minister praised the longstanding partnership with Zain, stating that the company has not merely served as a sponsor of the event but has been a genuine strategic partner in supporting Sudan’s healthcare infrastructure for many years.
Dr. Issam Hassan, Director of the National Blood Donation Center, noted that blood donation culture has played a crucial role in saving lives, particularly during the war period. He called on civil society organizations and young people to contribute to what he described as a vital humanitarian cause.
For his part, Zain representative Mohamed Abdelhamid Orsad paid tribute to blood donors for their sacrifice and for setting an example of solidarity. He said: “At Zain, we believe our responsibility toward the nation extends far beyond providing telecommunications services. The health of Sudanese society remains one of our highest priorities. Our contributions in this field reflect our firm belief in the importance of blood donation.”
Zain concluded its participation by reaffirming its commitment to supporting health and social initiatives that serve Sudanese citizens and called on private-sector institutions to join these national efforts in pursuit of a healthier and safer Sudan.
Before the outbreak of the war, Zain regularly organized blood donation campaigns as part of its corporate social responsibility programs and its support for youth and humanitarian initiatives that contribute to community service and sustainable development. The Central Blood Bank previously awarded the company a certificate of appreciation in recognition of having the largest employee participation in blood donation campaigns among Sudanese private-sector institutions.
