Cairo – Sudanhorizon – Sabah Moussa
The Sudanese Minister of Human Resources and Social Welfare, Mutasim Ahmed Saleh, affirmed that Sudan’s participation in the 114th session of the International Labour Conference in Geneva comes at a critical juncture for the country, as it strives to transition from war to recovery, reconstruction, and the building of sustainable peace.
In an exclusive statement Sudanhorizon news website on Wednesday, the minister said that this participation is particularly important as it provides Sudan with an opportunity to present its priorities to the international community and its partners in the areas of employment, social protection, vocational training, and skills development. This includes rehabilitating institutions affected by the war, strengthening cooperation with the International Labour Organization and friendly countries, and benefiting from their experiences and expertise.
The Minister explained that Sudan looks forward, at this stage, to the international community moving beyond mere humanitarian response to supporting recovery and reconstruction efforts, and investing in the Sudanese people through capacity building, rehabilitating vocational training centers, developing basic services, and creating job opportunities for youth, women, and those returning from displacement and refuge.
He noted that he held a number of fruitful bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the conference with labor ministers and international officials, resulting in important understandings in the areas of vocational training, skills development, capacity building, and institutional cooperation, which will support Sudan’s priorities in the coming phase.
Saleh reiterated that Sudan, despite the challenges imposed by the war, is moving forward on the path of recovery and reconstruction, emphasizing that social justice, decent work, and human resource development are fundamental pillars for achieving stability, development, and sustainable peace.
