West Bara Executive Director to Sudanhorizon: 61 Killed, Including 28 Captives Slaughtered During RSF Attack on Al-Marra Village

Cairo – Sudanhorizon – Sabah Mousa

The Executive Director of West Bara Locality in North Kordofan State, Omar Ali Mohammed Khair, said that a force affiliated with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), consisting of approximately 20 vehicles, attacked the unarmed residents of Al-Marra village on Thursday afternoon. He stated that the death toll from the attack has so far risen to 61 people, while 16 others were injured and are receiving treatment in the city of El Obeid.

In an exclusive statement to Sudanhorizon, Khair said that among the dead were 28 captives whom he alleged were all slaughtered by the RSF. He added that their bodies had been returned to the village, stressing that they were innocent farmers with no affiliation to the army, police, or security services.

Khair explained that despite suffering heavy losses, the villagers resisted the attacking force and ultimately succeeded in driving it out of the village. He noted that the force withdrew toward the town of Bara to seek refuge in areas under its control, while local residents pursued it for nearly five kilometers outside the town.

He further stated that citizens had regained control of the situation and that conditions were now stable. Residents of neighboring areas, he said, mobilized to support the village, arriving in approximately 22 private vehicles carrying humanitarian and relief assistance.

According to Khair, local communities united in response to the attack, providing livestock for slaughter and various forms of assistance to comfort the families of the victims and support those affected.

He also expressed concern that RSF elements could return to attack the village and surrounding communities in retaliation for the losses they suffered during the latest assault. He pointed out that civilians possess only limited weapons that are no match for the heavy weaponry used by the RSF, yet they were still able to repel the attack and force the attackers to retreat toward the wooded areas around Bara.

The Executive Director emphasized that the village’s residents have remained in their homes and that no displacement has occurred. He attributed this to the resilience of the local community and the support provided by neighboring areas, which helped residents remain in place.

Khair further alleged that the RSF is attempting to bring about demographic change by forcing indigenous populations from their lands, a factor that has strengthened the determination of residents to stay and defend their communities.

He added that neighboring communities provided various forms of support to the villagers, including food, water, light weapons, and manpower. He stressed that residents have no intention of leaving the area and reiterated warnings of possible future attacks aimed at spreading fear among civilians and targeting non-combatants.

He concluded by stating that the area is inhabited solely by civilians who possess only very light weapons compared to the heavy arms allegedly used by the Rapid Support Forces.
