IGAD, EU and Strategic Partnership

The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and the European Union have agreed to strengthen their strategic partnership, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to a stronger and more impactful collaboration in the region.
This came following a visit by a high-level European Union delegation, led by Ioana Albulescu from the Directorate-General for International Partnerships, to IGAD. During the visit, discussions focused on the importance of aligning priorities, enhancing cooperation, and advancing a shift toward more integrated and effective approaches in the areas of peace and security, climate change adaptation, and economic integration.
During the meetings, IGAD also presented its upcoming strategy for the period 2026–2030 to the delegation, with a particular focus on institutional transformation and digitalization.
