The Minister of Justice, Abdullah Darf, announced on Thursday the activation of legal enforcement measures in coordination with judicial bodies and law enforcement authorities to confront threats targeting the state and society.

He revealed a package of legal and procedural mechanisms directed by the Prime Minister in this regard, particularly concerning combating drugs, preventing smuggling, regulating the presence of foreigners, and addressing cybercrime.

This came during a joint session of the Al Qadarif State Government Council and its Security Committee, where the minister stressed that the drug issue is among the most serious threats facing the country, describing it as part of the war directed against Sudan, especially with the emergence of new, non-traditional types.

He noted that this situation requires legal amendments to ensure deterrent penalties, along with the need to activate law enforcement mechanisms and strengthen coordination between judicial institutions and enforcement agencies. He also emphasized the importance of activating community awareness programs, particularly among youth, to highlight the dangers of drugs that threaten the country’s future.

In a related context, the Minister of Justice explained that the ministry is reviewing certain provisions related to exemptions from criminal liability in the penal code, with the aim of protecting forces engaged in combating smuggling and enabling them to perform their duties while confronting risks posed by smugglers.

The minister also referred to amendments passed to the Cybercrime Law, which include stricter penalties to achieve both specific and general deterrence, in addition to the establishment of a cybercrime unit as a joint mechanism among relevant authorities to combat these crimes, which have increasingly become a threat to both societal and national security.
