The Chairman of the Transitional Sovereign Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, reiterated the government firm stance on the peace process and negotiations, emphasizing that “there will be no truce or ceasefire without the complete withdrawal and disarmament of the militias as a prelude to the completion of any peace process.”

In his address on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr on Thursday, Gen.Burhan explained that any peace plan must be comprehensive and accompanied by a timetable culminating in lasting peace, stressing the need for ensuring that no armed group remains outside the official framework of the state.

The Chairman of the Sovereign Council emphasized the leadership’s commitment to engaging positively with any peace initiative that meets security requirements and does not revive or reignite the causes of war. He reiterated hope that mediators and those seeking to end the war would respond positively to the initiatives presented by the Sudanese government. These initiatives aim to fulfill the people’s demands for the dismantling and elimination of any role for the rebel militia in Sudan’s future, as well as accountability for the war crimes, genocide, and crimes against humanity committed by the militia.

Burhan renewed his pledge to the Sudanese people to continue “purging the country of the terrorist Dagalo militia and its collaborators,” and to stand together to build the state, complete its institutions, and lay sound foundations for the normalization of civilian life and the establishment of the principle of the peaceful transfer of power.

Burhan commended the soldiers of the Armed Forces, the regular forces, and the popular resistance who rose to the challenge of cleansing the country of the “filth of rebellion.” He expressed his appreciation for the Sudanese people’s patience and their endurance of the heavy burdens of this war for the sake of a bright and secure future, affirming that victory is imminent.
