The Head of the leadership Council of the Democratic Unionist Party, Ishraqa Sayed Mahmoud, has confirmed that the workshop held by the French organization “Promediation” for a number of Sudanese political forces in Kuala Lumpur was good and beneficial.

In an exclusive statement to the news website “ Sudanhorizon,” Ishraqa has stressed that the organization chose the Malaysian capital as the venue for the workshop. She added that the workshop brought together some 15 poitical parties, noting that the participating political forces largely agreed on many issues. However, she also acknowledged that there was no full consensus among them on many other matters. She considered the workshop beneficial in consolidating opinions and reaching an agreement on the path for the upcoming political dialogue in Sudan, which must be inclusive.

She believed that these forces need to agree on a unified approach and consolidate their support for it in order to implement it in preparation for a comprehensive dialogue within Sudan. She stated that the workshop produced positive outcomes, including support for the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), condemnation of militia crimes and a demand to designate it as a terrorist organization, and a clear condemnation of the countries sponsoring it.

She said there was also agreement to prepare for internal political dialogue and a rejection of foreign interference, emphasizing that the dialogue must be purely Sudanese, free from any external influence.

Ishraqa pointed out that there is currently no intention to meet with the “Sumud” group, given its continued support for the Rapid Support Forces militia and its crimes, and its silence regarding these crimes. She stated that “Sumud” still equates SAF with the rebel militia, considering them equal parties in this war.

She emphasized that this is unacceptable to the political forces supporting the army, and that it represents a fundamental and principled disagreement between the national forces and “Sumud.” She added: “We consider the national army to be the legitimate institution and the sovereignty of Sudan, and we will never equate it with a militia that has rebelled against it, nor will we equate it with the crimes of this militia.” She added: “We, and the whole world, see and follow the displaced people as they flee the areas occupied by the militia and seek refuge in army-controlled areas, taking shelter with the army.”

She stressed that the army is the protector of all the Sudanese people and that it is leading the liberation battle in the name of the Sudanese people. She indicated that “Sumud” does not recognize this and does not agree with this viewpoint, considering this a dangerous stance from “Sumud,” and not merely a point of contention, but a matter of principle.

Under no circumstances can any political agreement be reached with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) unless they relinquish this position. She added, “If the RSF were to back down and its leadership apologize for their previous support of the militia, then common ground could be found, and political dialogue could commence.” She continued, “There is now a fundamental issue regarding the war, and the RSF must change its stance if it wants to engage in dialogue with the forces supporting the sovereignty of Sudan, the Sudanese people, and its army.”

A group of Sudanese political forces and parties met in an informal workshop on the political process and the future of Sudan in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from the 20th to the 22nd of this month. At the conclusion of their meeting, the workshop issued a document affirming the unity and sovereignty of Sudan and supporting state institutions, foremost among them the armed forces. The document also explicitly called for the RSF to be designated a terrorist organization and rejected any unconditional truce that would enable the militia to prolong the war.
