Electronic Check Clearance System to Resume Operations Wednesday
Sudanhorizon – Hala Hamza
The electronic check clearing system for local currency will resume operations on Wednesday, after a hiatus of more than two and a half years. This suspension was a consequence of the war that erupted on April 15, 2023, disrupting payment systems and banking infrastructure.
The resumption of the electronic clearing system is part of the Central Bank’s efforts to enhance the efficiency of payment systems and facilitate inter-bank transactions, thereby contributing to financial stability and reducing reliance on direct cash transactions.
The Central Bank of Sudan confirmed that the system’s reactivation followed the completion of all necessary technical and operational aspects and the issuance of regulations and guidelines governing the resumption of check clearing through the electronic clearing system, in coordination with operating banks and relevant authorities.
The Central Bank of Sudan (CBS) reiterated its commitment to continuing the development and modernization of national payment systems and strengthening oversight and supervision of banking operations. This commitment aims to support economic recovery efforts and bolster confidence in the country’s banking sector.
