Port Sudan Public Library Opens Chinese Wing, Plans Launch of Russian Section

The Port Sudan Public Library officially inaugurated a Chinese cultural wing on Wednesday in the presence of the Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Sudan, as well as the Deputy Chairman and members of the library’s Higher Committee.

Moatasim Abdel Qader Al-Qadi, Director of the State Public Library, said the Chinese section represents an extension of the shared cultural relationship between Sudan and China, reflecting the depth of their historical and civilisational ties. He added that it will promote cultural and knowledge exchange, including cooperation in publishing and the provision of scientific and cultural books and reference materials to libraries.

In a related development, a delegation from the Embassy of the Russian Federation visited the Port Sudan Public Library on Tuesday as part of efforts to strengthen cultural relations between Sudan and Russia.

The delegation, which included Chargé d’Affaires Maksim Slesarev and Second Secretary Vsevolod Popov, met with members of the library’s Higher Committee—Engineer Fatima Hassan Othman, Engineer Abu Ali Hashem, and Library Director Moatasim Abdel Qader Al-Qadi—to discuss prospects for cultural cooperation between the library and the embassy.

The two sides agreed to establish a Russian cultural wing at the library to introduce visitors to Russian culture, literature and history.

They also agreed to organise joint cultural and educational programmes, including seminars, exhibitions and other events aimed at promoting cultural exchange and strengthening the bonds of friendship between the Sudanese and Russian peoples.
