Desert Locust Control Campaign Launched in Preparation for Winter Season

The Desert Locust Control Department of the General Directorate of Plant Protection at the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation has launched its winter campaign against desert locusts creep in preparation for the winter season.
Dr. Mubarak Osman, Director General of the General Directorate of Plant Protection at the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, explained that preparations for the winter campaign are complete, aiming to secure winter crops in all winter farming areas of the River Nile State, the Northern State, and the Red Sea coast.
He noted the success of the 2025-2026 summer campaign, which began in early January, last year, starting with a campaign targeting locusts, rats, night-flying locust, and the grave-dwelling locust, and concluded with an aerial spraying campaign to control birds.
He explained that the Desert Locust Control Department deployed teams for survey and control operations, which began last December. He emphasized that the surveys showed encouraging indicators for continuing the winter campaign, and announced that the department had provided all necessary resources, equipment, and pesticides in coordination with the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning.
Dr. Mubarak praised the efforts of the Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation in supervising and monitoring all national pest control operations, ensuring effective control of national pests during the summer period, the successful launch of the winter campaign, and the protection of all agricultural crops
