The Turkish Presidency’s Directorate of Communications on Monday announced that Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud will visit Turkey on Tuesday.

The head of the Turkish Presidency’s Directorate of Communications, Burhanettin Duran, stated in a statement on his account on the Turkish social media platform “Ins Social” that Mohamud will visit Ankara at the invitation of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Duran added that the talks will review bilateral relations between Turkey and Somalia in all their dimensions and assess possible steps to further deepen cooperation.

He also indicated that the discussions will cover the latest developments in Somalia’s fight against terrorism, the steps taken by the Somali Federal Government to strengthen national unity, and regional developments.

Israel’s official recognition of the Republic of Somaliland as an independent state has been a source of concern for a number of Islamic countries, most notably Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey, who view the move as an attempt to destabilize the region and redraw the lines of influence.

Türkiye and Somalia have had strategic relations since 2011, encompassing economic and military aspects, with Türkiye building Mogadishu airport and establishing a military base.
