The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriate Affairs announced on Monday that two Egyptian nationals were killed and a third was injured after a gunman opened fire on them in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum.
According to a statement from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, the victims were truck drivers. The Ministry noted that it is closely monitoring this “unfortunate” incident.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty instructed the Egyptian Embassy in Khartoum to urgently contact Sudanese authorities to ascertain the circumstances of the incident and check on the injured citizen, as well as to take all necessary measures to repatriate the bodies of the deceased to Egypt as soon as possible.
For his part, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ambassador Tamim Khallaf stated that the Egyptian Ambassador to Sudan immediately contacted Sudanese authorities, who reported that they had successfully apprehended the perpetrator.
The statement added that the Egyptian Ambassador met with the Governor of Khartoum—who had arrived personally to offer condolences and check on the injured citizen—where the medical team treating the patient confirmed the need for an urgent surgery.
