Yemeni Presidency Refuses Statements Supporting Secession

The Yemeni Presidency has rejected statements by some ministers and officials in the internationally recognized Yemeni government supporting the Southern Transitional Council, that advocates secession agenda.
The Yemeni Presidency indicated that “using official positions to achieve political gains constitutes a grave violation of the constitution and the law, and harms the legal standing of the state.”
The Yemeni News Agency (SABA), which is run by the government, quoted an official source in the Presidential Office as saying: “Rashad al-Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, has followed with great interest the recent statements and declarations issued by some ministers and executive officials in the government, which included political positions that do not fall within their job responsibilities and are inconsistent with the constitutional and legal frameworks governing the transitional phase and the work of state institutions.”
According to the source, Al-Alimi “directed the government and relevant authorities to take all legal and administrative measures against any violations that undermine the unity of decision-making or attempt to impose any policies outside the constitutional framework and the terms of reference for the transitional phase, and to work by all means to protect the legal status of the state, the unity of its institutions, and ensure that the interests of citizens are not harmed.”
The presidential source stated that “the presidential directives stipulate strict adherence by all executive officials in the government to the decisions of the Presidential Leadership Council, the government program, and the terms of reference for the transitional phase, foremost among them the Declaration on the Transfer of Power and the Riyadh Agreement.”
The source affirmed that “the legitimate political leadership, recognized nationally, regionally, and internationally, represented by the Presidential Leadership Council, is the sole entity authorized to determine the state’s highest political positions. Therefore, exploiting power and using one’s official position or title to achieve political gains constitutes a grave violation of the constitution, the law, and the duties of public office. It also harms the legal standing of the state, the unity of the executive authority, and undermines civil peace and the existing national consensus, thus necessitating the necessary legal accountability and punishment for those responsible.”
The head of the Presidential Leadership Council called upon “the partners in the Southern Transitional Council to prioritize wisdom and dialogue, and to spare the Yemeni people, the country’s higher interests, and regional and international security from unprecedented threats. He also urged them not to squander the gains achieved in recent years with the support of our brothers in the Saudi-led Coalition to Restore Legitimacy, foremost among them the gains of the just cause of the South,” according to the official news agency.
Several ministers and executive officials in the internationally recognized Yemeni government announced in televised statements their full support for the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and the readiness of their ministries and institutions to declare the “State of South Arabia.”
All of these ministers and officials had been appointed to their positions as part of the STC’s share of cabinet posts within the internationally recognized Yemeni government.
A large gathering of STC supporters is taking place in Aden’s Parade Square, the interim capital in southern Yemen, demanding secession and the declaration of what they call the “State of South Arabia,” according to STC media outlets.
The United Arab Emirates supports the STC, which is demanding secession, while Saudi Arabia supports the internationally recognized Presidential Council.
