The Transitional Prime Minister, Dr. Kamil Idris, received a delegation from Sudanese Workers Trade-unions Federation (SWTUF) at his office in Port Sudan (Sunday) and discussed with them the issues related to workers in both the public and private sectors.
Following the meeting, the Federation’s President, Dr. Sirr al-Khatim al-Amin Abdul Qadir, said they debriefed the Prime Minister about the return of unions following the issuance of Constitutional Decree No. (4) Of 2025, which defreezed the trade union movement and allowed the Federation to fully exercise its role in accordance with the law and with all its powers, as reported by the Sudan News Agency.
Sir al-Khatim noted the roles played by the Federation within the framework of “trade union diplomacy,” where the Federation contributed to presenting questions related to the Sudan and explaining its developments through its membership at the Arab, African, and international levels. He stated that they would continue to do so.
Sirr al-Khatim indicated that they discussed with the Prime Minister how to advance the Union’s work during the coming period. He noted that the tripartite dialogue between the Union, the government, and employers was also discussed, and that the Prime Minister graciously sponsored and paid attention to the Union’s programs, as well as addressing workers’ issues, overcoming all obstacles, and resolving their problems before and after the war.
The head of the AWTUF added that they discussed with the Prime Minister the activation of the “Workers’ Food Package,” and the Prime Minister promised to give the matter the required attention and sponsor this project.
It is worth noting that the “Workers’ Bank” is handling the package, under the supervision of the Bank of Sudan and (17) other banks. The package provides basic commodities to public sector workers through their union branches.
