US-Norwegian Call Discusses Path to Peace in Sudan

The US Senior Advisor for Arab and African Affairs, Massad Boulos, held a “productive” phone call today (Friday) with Norwegian Deputy Foreign Minister Kravik Andreas. The call addressed several issues of mutual interest, particularly strengthening efforts toward a genuine and inclusive Sudanese dialogue and establishing a path to peace in Sudan.
Boulos stated in a tweet on his X platform that the talks also covered opportunities for achieving stability in Yemen and the Red Sea region, and reaching lasting solutions to other regional conflicts.
He noted that the US values its alliance with Norway, its expertise, and its growing support for humanitarian efforts in conflict zones.
Norway played a prominent role, alongside the United States, in brokering the Comprehensive Peace Agreement in Sudan between John Garang’s movement and the Sudanese government in Kenya in 2005. This agreement ultimately led to the secession of South Sudan in 2011.
