Trump Advisor: Contacts with RSF to Avert Attack on El Obeid
Washington – Sudanhorizon
The US Senior Advisor for Arab and African Affairs, Massad Boulos, stated that he contacted Rapid Support Forces (RSF) leaderships and urged them to refrain from attacking El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan State.
On Tuesday, Boulos posted on his X platform account that he had recently spoken by phone with the RSF leadership, strongly urging them to halt any actions that could endanger civilians in and around El Obeid.
The US advisor emphasized that the United States is “deeply concerned” about reports of the RSF and allied forces mobilizing, which increases the risk of attacks on civilians and potential mass atrocities in El Obeid, amidst the devastating humanitarian crisis gripping Sudan.
Meanwhile, the Emergency Lawyers Group revealed on Tuesday that dozens of civilians were injured in renewed shelling of El Obeid.
In a statement, the group said, “A Rapid Support Forces drone targeted a fuel tanker near a school area in El Obeid, injuring dozens of civilians with shrapnel and causing widespread panic among students, their families, and residents in the surrounding area.”
The group noted that the city is experiencing a deteriorating humanitarian situation due to the repeated targeting of vital infrastructure. The destruction of the electricity substation has led to a near-total power outage, disrupted water services, and resulted in long queues for water from limited sources.
The group also reported that the targeting of fuel tankers in and around El Obeid has caused fuel shortages, leading to a near-total paralysis of transportation and a surge in the prices of basic commodities. Meanwhile, the health crisis has worsened due to the lack of supplies and fuel.
The Emergency Lawyers Group condemned the attacks on electricity, water, fuel, and health services, stating that these attacks are leading to a gradual and comprehensive disruption of services and increasing pressure on civilians collectively. This has resulted in continuous waves of displacement from the city, amounting to forced displacement.
