Tijani Sese: Sudan at a Critical Juncture Requiring New Mechanisms to Face Challenges

Dr. Tijani Sese, Chairman of the National Movement Forces Alliance, paid tribute to the Sudanese people of the first generation on the occasion of the 69th anniversary of Sudan’s independence. He noted that the anniversary comes during a critical period marked by a devastating war unprecedented in history, emphasizing the need to establish a new phase to face these challenges. Sese commended the contributions of Sudan’s historical heroes, such as Ali Abdel Latif, Osman Digna, and Sultan Ali Dinar.
Sese warned neighbouring Chad against supporting the rebellion and allowing its airspace to be used for military and logistical support to insurgents. He stressed that while Sudan and Chad share complex ties, the use of Chadian territory as a platform for aggression against Sudan is unacceptable and unforgivable, urging Chad to reconsider its stance.
He criticized the international community’s response to Sudan’s crisis, stating that despite the ongoing violations by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) against civilians, part of the international community is complicit with the rebels, while others remain silent.
Calls for Unity and Support for the Armed Forces
Dr. Bahar Idris Abu Garda, President of the Sudan Justice Assembly (TISA), emphasized the importance of overcoming the past and building a strong nation for future generations. He also underscored the need to support the armed forces and reach an inclusive national dialogue. Abu Garda also saluted the Sudanese people on Independence Day.
Former Assistant to the President Musa Mohamed Ahmed addressed the forum. He appreciated the supportive roles of neighbouring countries, specifically thanking Egypt and Eritrea. He expressed full solidarity with the Sudanese armed forces and their allies in the ongoing Battle of Dignity.
Commitment to Inclusive Sudanese Dialogue
Ali Al-Sharif Al-Hindi, Chairman of the Preparatory Committee for the Forum, reaffirmed the National Movement’s commitment to a purely Sudanese dialogue. He highlighted the forum’s theme, “Stability of the Nation is Everyone’s Responsibility”, and noted that the first forum was held in Egypt, while the second took place in Port Sudan. This, he said, reflects the determination of political leaders to address Sudan’s issues within the country itself.
