Switzerland Pledges $270 Million in Humanitarian Aid to Sudan

Khartoum – Sudanhorizon
Switzerland has pledged $270 million in humanitarian aid to Sudan, the largest humanitarian response to date in Africa. Switzerland affirmed its commitment to providing this aid independently of conflict lines and to actively contribute to a peaceful resolution of the crisis.
The pledge was made during a meeting on Wednesday between Lieutenant General Shams al-Din Kabbashi, member of the Transitional Sovereign Council, and Andreas Baum, Chargé d’Affaires of the Swiss Embassy in Sudan, and his accompanying delegation, in the presence of Sylvain Astaire, the Swiss Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa.
In a press statement, the Swiss Chargé d’Affaires explained that his country is in contact with all relevant parties to understand the different perspectives and improve the response to the repercussions of the war. He also emphasized Switzerland’s condemnation of all violations of international humanitarian law and its call for an immediate ceasefire and the adoption of dialogue as the way out for a political solution that reflects the aspirations of the Sudanese civilians.
Baum also stressed the need for the parties to the conflict to commit to ensuring a non-politicized humanitarian environment that allows for unrestricted access for aid, while emphasizing the protection of civilians, aid workers and civilian infrastructure at all times.
