Sudan’s Return to IGAD Welcomed

The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has welcomed Sudan’s decision to resume its full participation in the organization.
In a statement issued on Monday, IGAD Executive Secretary Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu has described Sudan’s return as a reaffirmation of regional solidarity and a collective commitment to peace, stability, and cooperation throughout the region.
The Secretary noted that Sudan’s renewed participation, as a founding member state, strengthens IGAD’s unity and enhances its capacity to address shared regional priorities.
Dr. Gebeyehu expressed deep appreciation to President Ismail Omar Guelleh of the Republic of Djibouti and current Chair of IGAD, for his leadership and constructive engagement in guiding this process.
He commended the President’s unwavering commitment to dialogue and consensus-building to promote regional cohesion.
The Secretariat reiterated its readiness to work closely with the Republic of Sudan to achieve a peaceful resolution to current challenges and support a secure and prosperous future for the Sudanese people and the region as a whole.
