Sudanhorizon Source: Instructions to Activate Emergency Shutdown Plan for Heglig Field

Sudanhorizon – Nazik Shamam

The Sudanese Ministry of Energy and Petroleum informed its counterpart in South Sudan that it has issued instructions to companies operating in the Heglig area to activate the emergency shutdown plan and coordinate the evacuation of staff.

An informed source in the Sudanese Ministry of Energy told Sudanhorizon that the Undersecretary of the Ministry had sent a letter to his counterpart in South Sudan, informing him of the need to reduce the number of oil facilities transporting South Sudanese oil to a minimum.

This step follows an attack launched by the Rapid Support Forces militia against the Heglig oil field area, which resulted in the death of five people and the injury of seven others.

The source confirmed that the letter addressed to the Undersecretary of the South Sudanese Ministry of Petroleum confirms Sudan’s understanding of the importance of crude oil exports to Juba, while also highlighting the importance of employee safety and maintaining facilities in an operational state once the stable situation is restored.

The Heglig field was subjected to two drone attacks, one targeting the intelligence headquarters last Monday and another targeting Heglig Airport. Saturday.

Petrolines and Bashayer are transporting southern crude oil for export via Sudanese ports on behalf of South Sudan.
