Prime Minister Kamil Idris departed today for the United States, heading Sudan’s delegation to the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, which will commence tomorrow, Tuesday, in New York.

Information obtained by Sudanhorizon revealed that Kamil Idris is scheduled to hold important meetings on the sidelines of the session with several officials from the U.S. administration.

Diplomatic sources with broad knowledge indicated that Sudan’s delegation will also meet with a number of African leaders, and that Foreign Minister Mohieddin Salem will hold talks with his counterparts attending the meetings.

The sources told Sudanhorizon that the annual UN General Assembly provides a global platform for bilateral side meetings.

It is noteworthy that the head of Sudan’s delegation is expected to deliver the country’s address before the General Assembly on September 27, according to the official program for leaders’ speeches. His address is expected to touch on the course of the war raging in the country for more than two years, its humanitarian consequences, the destruction it has caused to infrastructure, and the external actors fueling it.

The Prime Minister’s delegation to New York includes Foreign Minister and Minister of International Cooperation Mohieddin Salem, who is expected to arrive today (Monday), and Minister of Culture, Information and Tourism Khalid Al-Eisir, who accompanied the Prime Minister on his trip, in addition to senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and other ministries relevant to the agenda of the 80th session.
