Sisi to ‘Sudanhorizon’: We Refused to Sit with Taqaddum and Its Two Wings in Addis Ababa and Criticized the AU

Dr. Al-Tijani Sisi, the head of the National Movement Forces, explained to “Sudanhorizon” that the African Union (AU) had invited two groups of national political forces: the Coordination of National Forces “Taqaddum” with its two new wings, “Sumoud”, and another group seeking to form a parallel government.

In a statement to the “Sudanhorizon” news website, Sisi said they attended the preliminary meetings for the Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue process on Wednesday. He added that these meetings aimed to discuss the consolidated document resulting from the meetings held in July and August between the African Union, the national forces, and Taqaddum. He noted that the national political forces refused to sit with the Taqaddum group today, stating that their meeting with the African Union mechanism ended with each party separately.

Sisi clarified that there will be another session tomorrow, Thursday, with the mechanism to review the document submitted by Taqaddum and other parties for comment. He pointed out that Taqaddum had refused to sit with the national forces in last July’s meetings, but this time they agreed to sit with them, though the national forces rejected it. He added that it seems Taqaddum has, this time, avoided the exclusionary approach it previously adopted, attributing this to the changing situation on the ground due to the Sudanese army’s victories. He said they had imagined that the Rapid Support Forces would win the war, which led them to be obstinate in their positions, provoking many national forces supporting the army.

The head of the National Movement Forces also stated that the national forces criticised the African Union for its positions due to the suspicious interventions of neighbouring and regional countries in Sudanese affairs. He added that they also criticised what is happening in Kenya against Sudan. Sisi appeared pessimistic about the outcomes of the African Union meetings aimed at establishing a Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue.
