Sudanese National Team Coach Resigns from Ghana Football Association Membership
Accra – Sudanhorizon
The head coach of the Sudanese national football team, Ghanaian Kwesi Appiah, has temporarily resigned from his membership in the Ghana Football Association in response to directives from the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
According to an official letter issued today (Monday) by CAF, Appiah must choose between his coaching role with the Sudanese national team or his position on the executive committee of the Ghana Football Association to avoid any conflict of interest ahead of the matches between Sudan and Ghana in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers from October 10 to 15.
A statement issued by the Ghanaian Football Association indicated that Appiah had stepped back from all executive committee activities since the beginning of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The Ghanaian coach arrived in Accra a few days before the Sudanese national team delegation arrived, along with the team’s administrative manager, Abubakar Al-Mahi, to finalise administrative and technical preparations.
The team players have engaged in training sessions, with the first and second batches of players expected to complete their arrival on Monday evening in preparation for the upcoming match on October 10.
The Sudanese national team needs at least one point to maintain its chances of securing one of the two qualification spots for the Africa finals.
