Sudanese Government Reaffirms Commitment to Facilitating Humanitarian Work

Dr. Salma Abdeljabbar Al-Mubarak, Member of the Sovereignty Council, affirmed the Sudanese government’s keenness and full commitment to facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid and removing obstacles facing relief teams and international and regional organizations operating in the humanitarian field, enabling them to carry out their humanitarian duties.
During her meeting today at her office in Port Sudan with the delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), headed by Daniel O’Malley, Head of Mission in Sudan, accompanied by Deputy Head of Mission José Luis Pozo, and Field Activity Coordinator Lilian Angelo, she praised the efforts undertaken by the ICRC in Sudan. She also expressed hope for strengthened cooperation with international and regional organizations to ensure humanitarian aid reaches those in need across all states of Sudan.
For his part, the Head of the ICRC Mission explained in a press statement that the meeting discussed issues related to humanitarian work, and the importance of coordination and joint efforts to ensure greater effectiveness in reaching those affected by the war. He noted that the meeting focused largely on ensuring adequate humanitarian space, particularly in supporting Sudanese voluntary organizations and humanitarian workers who have made significant contributions in providing aid and essential needs to Sudanese affected by the war.
He described the meeting with the Sovereignty Council member as productive and constructive, reaffirming their firm belief in the government’s commitment and cooperation in facilitating the mission of humanitarian organizations.
