Sudanese Foreign Minister to Sudanhorizon: The Fact-Finding Committee Seeks to Impose Sanctions on All of Sudan

Cairo – Sudanhorizon – Sabah Musa

Sudan’s acting foreign minister, Hussein Awad, described the UN-backed Fact-Finding Mission’s recommendation to deploy an independent and neutral force with a mandate to protect civilians in Sudan as “a righteous call with malicious intent.”
In an exclusive statement to ” Sudanhorizon” news, Awad explained that this recommendation is a prelude to a draft resolution set to be presented to the UN Security Council next week, proposed by the United States. According to Awad, the aim is to facilitate relief efforts and pressure Sudan into accepting imposed negotiations. He noted that Britain and France supported the resolution but criticised their stance as lacking true humanitarian concern, accusing them of “shedding crocodile tears.” He further stated that the objective is to expand the scope of UN Security Council Resolution 1591, originally passed in 2004 under the previous regime regarding Darfur, imposing sanctions on entities supporting the Sudanese army and rebel movements at that time. This resolution, he added, was imposed on Darfur under Chapter VII of the UN Charter.
The minister argued that the current draft resolution pushed by the Fact-Finding Mission is an attempt to impose a new reality by expanding the mandate and imposing sanctions on all of Sudan under the guise of protecting civilians. He stressed that protecting civilians requires the UN mission, along with Britain, France, and even the U.S., to impose sanctions on the UAE and pressure it, as it is the external power supplying the militia with deadly weapons that devastate the Sudanese people while falsely claiming to protect civilians.
Awad accused the West of covering its flaws, saying that they are sending a Fact-Finding Mission instead of naming the problem directly and blaming the UAE. He asserted that the Sudanese government is the most committed to protecting its citizens and does not need an external mission to demand civilian protection. Awad harshly criticised the UAE, referring to it as a “wolf” seeking to prey on Sudan and its people under the guise of humanitarian aid while actively destroying the country by arming and supporting the militias.
The minister accused the West of being complicit by turning a blind eye to the UAE’s actions, despite knowing the harm it causes to the Sudanese people and failing to take any action to stop its support for the rebellion. He praised Russia and China for opposing the Fact-Finding Mission’s recommendations, considering their stance as morally sound. Awad claimed that both Moscow and Beijing understand that Sudan is under a fierce Western attack aimed at exploiting its resources for Western interests. He pointed out that the West remains silent on the UAE’s violations while arming and funding the militias, adding that Russia and China’s position aligns with Sudan’s struggle to resist foreign interference.
Awad emphasised that Sudan is facing an aggressive external conspiracy led by the UAE, which he believes sees the failed rebel groups as a way to fulfil its own agenda. He praised Russia and China for standing in solidarity with oppressed nations like Sudan, which are resisting Western forces that seek to prevent their true independence. He concluded that Western nations aim to keep Sudan weak and divided to exploit its resources in the future, but Russia and China are aware of this. They are committed to supporting nations’ sovereignty and self-determination.
