Sudan Representative Denudes Militia Crimes at AU Human Rights Commission Meetings

The Sudanese delegate to the African Union, Al-Zein Ibrahim Hussein, has stressed that the Government of Sudan has strong evidence of the existence of significant external support that is still continuing for the rebel Rapid Support Militia from external parties, led by the United Arab Emirates, where air transport takes place through airports in the region such as the Chadian um Jars airport and the Bosaso base in Somalia, then by land from Chad and other points in the vicinity to Sudanese territory.
Al-Zein added during his address to the 38th session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights, held in the Gambian capital, Banjul, that Sudan will continue to knock on the door of international justice, and apply the foundations of national justice at home, through law enforcement institutions and submit reports to the United Nations through the Security Council and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.
Ambassador Al-Zein pointed out that the National Committee to Investigate Crimes and Violations of National Law and International Humanitarian Law. He stressed that many independent international bodies, have concluded that the Rapid Support Militias have committed war crimes, crimes against humanity and ethnic cleansing and genocide.
The Sudanese diplomat referred to what happened in the city of El Geneina and what the Masalit people in West Darfur have been exposed to and what was happening repeatedly around Al Fashir and in displaced persons camps such as Zamzam camp and Abu Shouk, and what has been witnessed in Gezira state and other areas of Sudan, in addition to the civilian massacre committed by the militia in the “Salha” area in western Omdurman last week, and many crimes such as the treatment of prisoners in violation of humanitarian law of torture, killing and photography.
The representative of Sudan explained that the rebel Rapid Support militia is committing the crime of mercenary against many nationalities, amounted to more than 13 countries, according to the available statistics, some of which are neighboring countries in the region and the other from distant regions and from countries outside the continent.
In his statement before the session, Ambassador Al-Zein highlighted the widespread violations committed by the Rapid Support Militia against children and women, its practice of extra-judicial killing, forced displacement, enforced disappearance, deprivation of freedom of movement for civilians, attacks on civilian objects and homes, and looting of banks, and pointed to the militia’s targeting of civilian infrastructure, airports, communications and electricity transformers with drones.
The militia’s criminal behavior has included attacking the premises of foreign diplomatic missions and international organizations and blocking and confiscating humanitarian aid, he said.
He added that the attacks by the rebel militia included the headquarters of the National Commission for Human Rights in Sudan, destroyed places of worship, tangible cultural heritage sites, museums, national archives and libraries, and looted rare historical artifacts.
He concluded that the rebel Rapid Support militia also deliberately attacked oil production facilities and disrupted the pipeline carrying South Sudan’s oil from production centers, which passes through the territory of Sudan, on its way for export.
