The newly appointed U.S. Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, emphasized the need for “pressure on Sudanese parties to end hostilities and ensure humanitarian aid reaches those in need.” This marks his first public statement on the situation in Sudan since taking office.
According to State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce, Secretary Rubio spoke with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Atty on Thursday, highlighting the strategic partnership between the United States and Egypt in promoting regional peace, security, and stability.
Bruce noted that Secretary Rubio thanked Abdel Atty for Egypt’s mediation efforts, particularly in securing the release of hostages and ensuring the continued delivery of humanitarian aid across Gaza. He also stressed the importance of close cooperation in post-conflict planning for governance and security in Gaza.
