Port Sudan – Sudanhorizon

The Sudanese government has outlined its priorities for recovery and reconstruction, strongly focusing on infrastructure projects, including road networks, energy, electricity, and water systems. The plan also emphasises rehabilitating productive sectors and presenting development projects to financiers and development partners.

During an expanded meeting chaired by Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Dr Jibril Ibrahim, in Port Sudan on Tuesday, government officials discussed these priorities with Abdallah Al Dirdiri, Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations and UNDP Regional Director for the Arab States. The meeting was attended by ministers of agriculture and forestry, energy and petroleum, irrigation, infrastructure, and the Undersecretary of Planning at the Ministry of Finance.

Abdallah Al Dardari presented the UNDP’s recovery plan for Sudan, aligning with government priorities within a comprehensive national framework for financing key projects. The UNDP plan includes strategies to address violence, displacement, and social protection while also tackling climate change and its impact on economic activity, digital transformation, energy and telecommunications sector financing, value chain development, and leveraging microfinance to bridge funding gaps.
