Sudan: Gold Constitutes 60% of the Country’s Exports

The Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Sudan, Mohamed Osman, confirmed that gold contributes 60% of all the country’s exports, stressing the central bank’s significant role in export revenues and supporting the national economy.
This came during his Monday inauguration of the Sudanese unified window for gold exports in Port Sudan.
In the context, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Minerals, Dr Mohamed Saeed Zain Al-Abidin, revealed diligent work to study industrial minerals in all the country’s states as they constitute the future of the country, noting that the window will include the export of minerals other than gold in the future, stressing the presence of workers in the various arms of the ministry in the country’s mining sites despite the war conditions.
In turn, the Director General of the Sudanese Mineral Resources Company Limited, Mohamed Tahir Omar, announced that gold production since the beginning of this year has exceeded “58 tons” with export revenues exceeding one billion and 500 million dollars in the past ten months, and revealed the return of all international companies to the production cycle.
Mohamed Tahir stressed that establishing the Sudanese window for gold exports was a great success achieved in export operations thanks to the combined efforts of the relevant parties. He pledged to move forward in confronting challenges and removing obstacles facing gold exporters to reach the stage of “zero smuggling through policies, not repression”, revealing at the same time the increase in companies exporting gold through official channels, adding: “Our covenant with the state leadership is that the sector will have major contributions to the national economy.”
For her part, the Director General of the Sudanese Standards and Metrology Organization, Rahba Saeed Abdullah, called for the necessity of contributing with a national vision to restore what was destroyed by the war and return the country to its former path and said that we are moving forward with the steadfastness of the confident, noting that the launch of the window is a distinctive experience of success and has enjoyed sound planning and tight coordination between the relevant parties.
