Sudan and Turkey Discuss Resumption of Power Project in Eastern Sudan

The Ministry of Energy and Petroleum announced on Sunday the resumption of work on the second phase of the Kalanayeb Electricity Project in Red Sea State, eastern Sudan.
Minister of Energy, Mu’tasim Ibrahim Ahmed, met with a delegation from the Turkish companies Simyokntr and Lamatak to discuss restarting the project after years of suspension, with talks focusing on resuming the second phase of the Kalanayeb electricity project in Port Sudan.
The meeting stressed the need to accelerate progress on the project given its critical importance to the region. The Minister affirmed the government’s commitment to overcoming obstacles and supporting the project, noting that financing arrangements had been made with the African Export-Import Bank during his recent visit to Cairo.
He emphasized the urgency of moving forward swiftly to ensure the project’s success and completion within the designated timeframe.
For his part, Turkish Ambassador to Sudan, Fatih Yildiz, highlighted the depth of Sudanese-Turkish relations and reaffirmed his country’s readiness to cooperate with Sudan in the energy sector. He pointed out that Turkey has numerous leading global companies specialized in energy, capable of working in Sudan to help rebuild what has been destroyed by war.
He added that the electricity sector is a strategic priority, especially at this stage, for Sudan.
