Sudan a Founding Member of the World’s First Global Organization for AI Cooperation

The Republic of Sudan has officially become one of the founding members of the World Organization for Artificial Intelligence Cooperation after signing the organization’s founding agreement in the Chinese capital, Beijing, on Friday. Sudan joins 35 other countries in establishing the first international organization dedicated to promoting global cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence.

Sudan was represented at the signing ceremony by its Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, Omar Eisa Ahmed, who signed the agreement on behalf of the Sudanese government in the presence of Liu Bin, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of China.

Sudan’s accession as a founding member is expected to strengthen international cooperation in capacity building, knowledge transfer, scientific research, technology development, and the exchange of expertise, supporting the country’s digital transformation priorities and keeping pace with the rapid advancements in artificial intelligence.

Minister of Digital Transformation and Communications, Eng. Ahmed Al-Dardiri Ghandoor, said:

“Sudan’s signing today means that the country has become one of the nations helping shape the future of international cooperation in artificial intelligence, rather than merely observing it. This membership is not only a diplomatic achievement but also an investment in Sudanese talent, empowering national expertise both at home and abroad. It is a strategic step that supports Sudan’s digital transformation journey and strengthens its position in the global digital economy.”

For his part, Ambassador Omar Eisa Ahmed said Sudan’s membership reflects the country’s commitment to strengthening international cooperation in artificial intelligence and benefiting from opportunities in capacity building, knowledge transfer, scientific research, and technology development. He added that the partnership will support sustainable development and enhance international cooperation, particularly among countries of the Global South.

Sudan’s accession marks another step in the country’s efforts to expand its international engagement in digital transformation and emerging technologies while building strategic partnerships that help develop national talent, promote knowledge exchange, and maximize the opportunities offered by artificial intelligence to advance sustainable development.
