Sources to Sudanhorizon: Currency Circulating in Militia-Controlled Areas Stolen from CBS Vaults

Sudanhorizon – Hala Hamza
Well-Informed banking sources have confirmed to Sudanhorizon on that the 500 and 1000 Sudanese pound banknotes currently circulating in areas under the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia are the same denominations printed during the tenure of former Central Bank Governor Hussein Yahya Jangoul.
The sources explained that these banknotes, bearing the former governor’s signature and printed retroactively in May 2022, were stored in the Central Bank’s vaults, while some were still at the printing press when they were stolen by the RSF militia.
They indicated that these funds are now being circulated through Al-Mustaqbal Financial Services Company, which began injecting them into the market last May.
The sources also noted that the former governor is currently residing in the United Arab Emirates.
It is worth noting that the decision to relieve Jangoul of his position was issued amidst measures aimed at drying up the financial resources of the Rapid Support Forces, amidst numerous questions and speculations about the reasons for the dismissal, without any official announcement proving his accusation of collusion.
