“Siege of El Fasher” Tops Kamil Idris’ Agenda at UN General Assembly Meetings

Port Sudan – Sudanhorizon
Prime Minister Kamil Idris has stated on Saturday that he is determined to raise the issue of the siege imposed on El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, during the United Nations General Assembly meetings next week.
The Prime Minister oversees the National Committee for Breaking the Siege on El Fasher. He is scheduled to head Sudan’s delegation to the UN General Assembly in New York and deliver Sudan’s address.
On Friday, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) committed a brutal massacre in El Fasher, killing 75 people when they bombed a mosque with a drone during dawn prayers.
Addressing the opening session of the committee’s work, Idris said: “I call upon the General Assembly to work towards lifting the siege on El Fasher. I will address the Assembly in the coming days, and among the most pressing issues I will raise is breaking the siege.”
He explained that he is in contact with UN Secretary-General António Guterres to “mobilize his energy and moral authority to break the siege on El Fasher.”
The RSF has deployed thousands of fighters in villages surrounding El Fasher after displacing residents, blocking the entry of goods, humanitarian aid, and medicine into the city, and killing anyone suspected of attempting to deliver food by donkey.
The siege has led to the depletion of supplies, forcing most residents to survive on animal fodder, while a shortage of burial shrouds has left families covering victims with plastic bags.
The Prime Minister urged the regional and international community, as well as the UN Security Council, to assume their responsibilities and rally behind the initiative to lift the siege on El Fasher, criticizing the international silence over the prolonged blockade.
He added: “We pledge to do everything within our capacity and strength to break the siege on El Fasher, which will end soon. The city will remain unyielding to the aggressors.”
The militia has destroyed water stations and health facilities in El Fasher while committing grave violations, including mass killings, ethnically targeted executions, sexual violence, forced displacement, home occupations, and attacks on displacement camps and shelters.
