Member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council and Assistant Commander-in-Chief, Ibrahim Jaber Ibrahim, met today in Khartoum with Denise Brown, the UN Resident Coordinator in Sudan.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing all necessary assistance to enable international organizations and UN agencies to carry out their duties, highlighting the government’s efforts to deliver humanitarian aid to those affected by the war.

The Sovereignty Council member stressed the need for the international community to play a greater role in protecting civilians and improving humanitarian conditions in light of continued attacks by the terrorist militia on humanitarian convoys and the besieging of civilians in several cities across Darfur and Kordofan.

For her part, Brown emphasized the role of the UN program in supporting countries to eradicate poverty, reduce inequality, and build resilience to crises, in addition to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals.

She further confirmed her commitment to work alongside the Sudanese government to deliver humanitarian aid to those in need, while also engaging partners to mobilize additional support to confront the ongoing crisis.
