Rwanda Premier League Welcomes Participation of Sudanese Clubs

Kigali – Sudanhorizon

President of the Rwanda Premier League Association, Yusuf Mudahir, announced on Monday during a press conference in Kigali that the league officially welcomes the participation of three Sudanese clubs — Al-Hilal, Al-Merrikh, and Ahli Wad Madani — in the 2025–2026 Rwandan Premier League season.

Mudahir stated that the Sudanese teams will compete under the official regulations and competition rules of the league. He explained that fixtures will be scheduled for November 2025 following the league’s standard format, with no special modifications for the visiting clubs.

He further clarified the award procedure, noting that “if any Sudanese club finishes the season at the top of the table, it will receive the championship trophy in recognition of its achievement. However, the Rwandan club that tops the local standings will also be crowned national champion.”

Mudahir emphasized that the Sudanese participation stems from sporting cooperation between the Sudanese and Rwandan football federations, while clarifying that the guest clubs will not represent Rwanda in continental competitions.

He also confirmed that Sudanese players will be treated as local players for the purposes of domestic registration and will not count toward the foreign-player quota, which remains capped at eight per team.

The Sudanese clubs’ inclusion follows official approval from the Rwandan Football Federation (FERWAFA) for them to compete as guest teams.

Meanwhile, Sudanese Football Association President Dr. Mutasim Jaafar is expected to arrive in Kigali soon to finalize logistical and organizational arrangements, ensuring the teams’ readiness for both the Rwandan Premier League and the Sudanese Premier League, scheduled to resume in January 2026.

Earlier, the Sudanese Football Competitions Committee confirmed a group-stage format for the new domestic season, dividing 24 clubs into six groups, with the Premier League draw set for December 2025.
