Russia Warns of All-Out Space War
Sudanhorizon – Agencies
Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, has warned of an all-out space war should Russia’s “Rasvet” satellite system be blocked.
The Russian news agency Sputnik quoted a Telegram post by Medvedev stating: “Blocking the Russian ‘Rasvet’ satellite system at Kyiv’s foolish request would mean its destruction. This would lead to an all-out space war. I hope the Americans understand this. In that event, low-orbit Starlink satellites would fall like toys from a withered Christmas tree.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had previously stated in an interview with the “Financial Times” that he repeatedly asked US President Donald Trump to block the “Rasvet” system and impose sanctions on Russian and Chinese companies involved in its development; according to Zelenskyy, China is cooperating with Russia on this project.
The Russian agency noted that the emergence of a Russian counterpart to Starlink has caused deep concern in Ukraine. Zelenskyy’s advisor, Serhiy Beskristnov (“Flesh”), believes that this would give the Russian armed forces a distinct advantage, enabling them to strike Ukrainian targets using satellite-guided drones, whereas the US-based Starlink communication system does not operate over Russian territory. It is worth noting that the “Rassvet” system was developed by the private Russian space industry company “Bureau 1440″—founded in Moscow in December 2020 and part of the “X-Holding” group. The system is designed for low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites, aiming to provide broadband data transmission to any location on Earth. Its development is taking place within the framework of the “Data Economy and State Digital Transformation” national project for the 2025–2030 period.
Notably, the company successfully launched the first 16 satellites of the “Rassvet” constellation into low Earth orbit at the end of March.
