Rubio to Congress Divisions Among US Allies Complicated Situation in Sudan

Washington – Sudanhorizon
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told the House Foreign Affairs Committee in his speech regarding the State Department’s budget request for fiscal year 2027 that ” the divisions between the UAE and Saudi Arabia have truly complicated our ability to bring that to an end.”
Rubio listed the many successes his department has achieved around the world, but when he turned to Sudan, he acknowledged it as one of the challenges that must be addressed.
According to the transcript of his speech released by the State Department on Wednesday, his country remains focused on that, and they have people that work on that full time negotiations. As many of you know, Sudan has unfortunately become a proxy war between several countries.”
Rubio acknowledged that the division between America’s two closest allies in the region may be complicating the conflict, saying, the division between the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia have made it more difficult to end. He revealed that his country’s current focus is on identifying two—or four—cities, two on each side, to serve as distribution points for humanitarian aid.

The American official lamented, that the most frustrating thing about Sudan was that one side agrees to something and then reneges. Nevertheless, the USA remain focused on this, and it has dedicated team working on it. “We even held a donors’ conference about a month and a half ago, where we pledged hundreds of millions of dollars not only for humanitarian aid but also for reconstruction. This is what we are focused on, and it is an ongoing challenge.”
