Power Struggle in Chad Leads to the Detention of Youssouf Boy and Aboud Hashem

N’Djamena – Sudanhorizon – Exclusive
Exclusive information obtained by Sudanhorizon news outlet has confirmed that Chadian President General Mahamat Déby (Kaka) has ordered the arrest of General Idriss Youssouf Boy, his former chief of staff, placing him under house arrest. In addition, the mayor of Amjarass, Aboud Hashem, has been detained and imprisoned for several days.
Although the leaks circulated by the Chadian presidency claim that the measures are linked to charges of corruption and the misuse of funds allocated for the reconstruction of parts of eastern Chad, sources closely connected to the Chadian file told Sudanhorizon that the matter is in fact tied to a hidden power struggle over the presidential seat in N’Djamena.
The sources stated that both Idriss Youssouf Boy and Aboud Hashem were among the key figures who worked with Abu Dhabi in support of the “Rapid Support” project. Aboud Hashem reportedly operated from Amjarass airport to facilitate the arrival of military aid from the UAE to the militia. At the same time, Idriss Youssouf Boy served as the main link between the Emirati and Chadian capitals, travelling regularly to the Gulf state.
According to the sources, it is highly likely that what has been circulating in Chadian elite circles is accurate — that Youssouf Boy had presented himself to the Emiratis as the “trusted successor” to Mahamat Kaka and had begun some related arrangements. This, they said, reached the ears of the President, prompting him to move pre-emptively to block any potential manoeuvre in that direction, particularly as the fallout from the situation in Sudan in general, and the siege of El-Fasher in particular, continues to cast a shadow of tension over domestic affairs in Chad’s western neighbour.
