Port Sudan – Sudan Horizon
The National Council for Child Welfare (NCCW) has revealed that about 15 million Sudanese children are currently out of school as a result of attacks perpetrated by the rebel Rapid Support Forces militias.
Dr Abdul Qader Al-Amin Abuh, Secretary-General of the National Council for Child Welfare, told a press conference devoted to highlighting ministerial decisions and efforts exerted for the protection of children during the war that the Rapid Support Militias have committed brutal acts against children in several states that they recently attacked, especially in Kordufan, Darfur, Al-Gazira, and Sinnar states.
Abuh pointed out during the press conference held at Al-Rabwa Hotel, Port Sudan, on Tuesday that the militias have kidnapped more than (2,500) children and caused the forceful disappearance of a similar number and the death of (3,000) during their displacement from their home areas.
He added that the Militias recruited more than (8) thousand children to fight alongside their ranks.
Abuh confirmed that his council has implemented a number of activities aimed at achieving social protection and secured a childhood database to help achieve justice for children and provide them with services.
He said that these activities also comprised children without care and those with disabilities. They are carried out in cooperation with national partners from various institutions, applying the best scientific practices and approaches.
He stressed that the aim is to achieve national education and social upbringing for these Sudanese children, referring to the situation brought about by War conditions.
Abuh added that the work for those children with disability and those without parental care has been carried out with partners in those fragile areas where they were forced to be displaced from Khartoum and then Madani, and they need food.
