Ministerial Directives to Save Agricultural Season in Northern State

The Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Dr. Mohieddin Naeem Mohamed Saeed, affirmed his ministry’s commitment to resolving the electricity problem in Northern State to save the summer agricultural season following the Rapid Support Forces militia’s targeting of the Merowe Dam power plant. He highlighted the state’s importance in securing food supplies for the country.

During a meeting in his office in Port Sudan, on Sunday, with the Governor of the Northern State, Major General Abdul Rahman Abdul Hamid, the minister directed the Electricity Administration to hand over a temporary 8-megawatt power station to the state, along with a 20-megawatt solar power plant, to help save the agricultural season and provide power to water stations and health facilities.

The minister also promised the imminent restoration of the grid connection with the Arab Republic of Egypt. He stated that the connection will provide 80 megawatts, sufficient to address the situation in the state. He also highlighted the efforts being made to maintain the Merowe Dam transformers and complete the procedures for supplying new transformers.

For his part, the Governor of the Northern State expressed his thanks and appreciation for the efforts made by the Ministry of Energy to solve the electricity problem in the state and save the agricultural season in the Northern State, as it is the food basket of Sudan at this stage the country is going through.
