Minister of Human Resources Discusses with His Kuwaiti Counterpart Support for Social and Health Protection in Sudan

The Minister of Human Resources and Social Welfare, Professor Moatasim Ahmed Saleh, on Friday discussed with his Kuwaiti counterpart, Ms. Amthal Hadi Al-Huwaila, ways to support and strengthen health and social protection for vulnerable groups in Sudan, foremost among them the displaced and fragile groups. The discussions took place on the sidelines of the 45th session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs, held in the Jordanian capital, Amman.

The two sides discussed expanding health coverage through health insurance, supporting health centers with medical devices and equipment, providing essential medicines, as well as meeting the needs of persons with disabilities, particularly materials used in the manufacture of prosthetic limbs and assistive devices.

The Sudan News Agency reported that Minister Moatasim Ahmed Saleh affirmed during the meeting the strength and depth of Sudanese–Kuwaiti relations, praising the valued humanitarian and developmental support that the State of Kuwait has continued to provide to the Sudanese people. This support has included humanitarian aid and development projects, among them the Eastern Sudan Reconstruction Fund.

For her part, the Kuwaiti Minister of Social Development expressed her country’s pride in the fraternal relations linking the two brotherly nations, stressing that Kuwait’s support for Sudan stems from the sincere bonds of brotherhood between the two peoples.

The minister pledged the continued support of the State of Kuwait to Sudan, particularly in the fields of supporting displaced persons and vulnerable groups, supplying health centers with medicines, medical devices, and equipment to expand service coverage, in addition to supporting prosthetics and rehabilitation programs. The two sides also agreed to establish a joint coordination mechanism to follow up on what was agreed upon and translate it into practical programs on the ground.

The meeting was attended by Sudan’s Ambassador to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Hassan Saleh Swar Al-Dahab, and from the Kuwaiti side, Dr. Khaled Al-Ajmi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Development.
