The Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, Professor Ismat Qurashi, announced the recovery of 90% of archived maps.

Upon his arrival today (Thursday) in Al Jazirah State, accompanied by a delegation from the ministry to assess preparations for the 2026 summer agricultural season, he stated that the destruction of these maps had been intended to undermine the agricultural infrastructure.

Qurashi praised the role played by irrigation workers, according to press statements reported by the ministry’s media department, and affirmed that the irrigation sector is sending a message of hope that national institutions are capable of recovery and progress.

For his part, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, Engineer Daw Al-Bayt Abdulrahman, said that 35,000 archived maps have been recovered out of a total of 40,000. He emphasized that the archive holds a historical legacy spanning 100 years of agricultural projects.

He also reassured that the electronic archiving of some maps had begun as early as 2008 outside the irrigation facilities, which helped in recovering the documents and protecting them from damage or destruction.
