Egypt and Eritrea Support Peace in Sudan

Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki discussed developments in the Horn of Africa and support for institutions in Sudan with Egypt’s General Intelligence Chief, Minister Abbas Kamel, and Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aaty in the Eritrean capital, Asmara.
In a statement, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said: “The Minister of General Intelligence and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Migration of Egyptians Abroad visited Asmara today (Saturday), during which they met with Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki. They conveyed a message from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to the Eritrean president, which focused on supporting and developing bilateral relations between the two countries in various fields and following up on the region’s political and security developments.”
The statement continued: “They also listened to President Afwerki’s vision regarding developments in the Red Sea, in light of the importance of ensuring the proper conditions for restoring normal maritime navigation and international trade through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. They also discussed developments in the Horn of Africa, the region’s challenges, and ways to enhance security and stability.”
Both sides agreed on the importance of intensifying efforts and continuing consultations to achieve stability in Sudan, support its national institutions, and maintain Somalia’s unity and sovereignty over its entire territory.
