Mubarak Ardol, a leader within the Democratic Bloc, announced the first plane’s arrival at Kadugli Airport in South Kordofan since the outbreak of war in Sudan.
In a post on his official Facebook page, Ardol expressed, “One of the happiest pieces of news (despite the widespread sorrow in our country) is that the first plane has arrived today at Kadugli International Airport, carrying a delegation from the technical committee between the governments of Sudan and South Sudan to coordinate the delivery of humanitarian aid to the people of South Kordofan.”
Ardol stated that starting tomorrow, the American organization Samaritan’s Purse is expected to commence humanitarian operations as part of the agreement between the Chairman of Sudan’s Sovereign Council, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the President of South Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit.
He continued, “Thanks to both leaders and all the parties involved in monitoring and implementing this agreement, which will save the lives of millions of our people who have been besieged for nearly two years.”
He added, “On behalf of those concerned, I extend my gratitude and appreciation to everyone who volunteered in the past to alleviate the severe famine that affected the region, especially those with kitchens, initiatives, and generous individuals inside and outside the country, including governmental and community entities. Your efforts will not be forgotten, nor will we forget the hardship endured by our people. Personally, I won’t forget the cries of our children, which I heard from our closest family members, whose homes were once open and generous before the war. Relief has finally reached you after your long patience.”
On October 19, the Sovereign Council approved the opening of Kassala, Dongola, El Obeid, and Kadugli airports to facilitate the smoother delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need across Sudan.
According to a statement from the World Food Programme, humanitarian workers reached Kadugli for the first time since the outbreak of the war on November 4, 2023.
