Joint Forces Spokesperson: Liberation of Abu Qamra Is a Strategic Victory That Restores Control Over Key Supply Routes to El Fasher

Cairo – Sudanhorizon – Sabah Mousa

The official spokesperson for the Joint Forces, Mutawakkil Ali Wakil, announced that the Joint Forces on Saturday liberated the Abu Qamra area in North Darfur State during a military operation carried out in close coordination with the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Popular Resistance.

Speaking exclusively to Sudanhorizon, Wakil said the Joint Forces, the Armed Forces, and the Popular Resistance achieved a “major victory” in the area, inflicting heavy losses in personnel and military equipment on the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which he described as a rebel militia.

Wakil explained that Abu Qamra, which falls administratively under Karnoi locality in North Darfur State, is of considerable strategic importance due to its geographic position linking several cities and localities across the region. He added that it also serves as a major logistical and supply hub, making it the site of decisive military engagements.

He noted that the area constitutes a strategic gateway for controlling supply lines and advancing toward the city of El Fasher, explaining that its military significance stems from its position as a key link along the northwestern axis leading to the city, which serves as a central hub connecting the region to Sudan’s western border.

The spokesperson added that the area’s logistical importance lies in enabling full control and security over supply routes originating from the western border and northern parts of Darfur, according to the current battlefield situation.

Wakil further stated that Abu Qamra also serves as an advanced staging and deployment point in military operations, providing favorable geographic cover for troop movements and intelligence activities, thereby strengthening control over the access routes leading into El Fasher.
