Initiative by Gold Exporters to Renovate Gold Complex in Khartoum Central

Sudanhorizon – Nazik Shamam

The Gold Exporters Division has announced an initiative to rehabilitate the Gold Complex in the Arab Market area in central Khartoum.

The head of the division, Abdel Moneim Al-Siddiq, stated that the complex represents the “beating heart” and a true symbol of the city of Khartoum. He told Sudanhorizon that work has already begun on repairing the building and restoring it to its former condition.

Al-Siddiq noted that efforts are underway to remove debris and waste from the complex, stressing the importance of joint cooperation between the private sector and the government to complete the project.

He also emphasized the urgency of restoring electricity and water services to the complex, pointing to the extensive and systematic destruction that affected its buildings, which requires intensified reconstruction efforts.

Al-Siddiq revealed that contacts are ongoing between the division and relevant authorities to facilitate the rehabilitation process and enable gold traders to resume their activities from their shops.

Since last July, commercial activity has gradually begun to return to the Gold Complex in central Khartoum after a halt of more than two years due to the war that erupted in April 2023.
