IGAD Health Ministers Hold Emergency Ministerial Meeting to Discuss Ebola Virus Outbreak

Djibouti – Sudanhorizon

The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) held an emergency ministerial meeting bringing together health ministers from member states following the confirmation of an Ebola virus outbreak in the region.

The organization noted that the outbreak is linked to the continued transmission of the disease in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, highlighting the urgent need for coordinated regional efforts, strengthened cross-border surveillance, and collective preparedness through the “PREPARE” project, which is supported by the Pandemic Fund and implemented in cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).

IGAD affirmed its commitment to continuing its efforts to strengthen regional health security and emergency response capacities.
