The Humanitarian Aid Commissioner of Sudan, Salwa Adam Buniya, on Friday inaugurated at Port Sudan Port a ship carrying humanitarian aid provided by Turkey, containing 10,000 tents, in the presence of Turkey’s Ambassador to Sudan, Fatih Yildiz, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Welfare, a representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Director of Sea Ports, and the Director of the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

The Humanitarian Aid Commissioner expressed her appreciation for the continued support provided by the Republic of Turkey to Sudan, extending her thanks to the Turkish government, people, and charitable institutions for their assistance, affirming that this support reflects the depth of relations between the two countries.

She emphasized the Sudanese government’s commitment, through its various institutions, to facilitating all procedures to ensure the smooth flow of humanitarian aid and its delivery to those in need, noting that the Humanitarian Aid Commission is responsible for the direct supervision of distribution operations.

The Commissioner explained that there is full coordination with the International Organization for Migration at all stages of the process, from the arrival of the tents to their distribution to citizens, in accordance with the needs map prepared by the Commission, ensuring that aid is directed to areas of genuine need. She also pointed to the increase in the number of displaced persons in El-Obeid city and White Nile State.

For his part, Turkey’s Ambassador to Sudan, Fatih Yildiz, affirmed his country’s commitment to supporting Sudan amid the humanitarian conditions it is experiencing, announcing the provision of relief tents from the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) to shelter thousands of displaced people in several affected states.

The ambassador stated, during his address at the reception ceremony for the Turkish aid ship, that the tents will provide shelter for displaced persons from the Darfur region and help protect thousands of children from rainfall in the Kordofan states, in addition to sheltering women who have lost their husbands.

He stressed that these tents are not merely shelter materials, but rather convey a message of solidarity and friendship from the Turkish people to the Sudanese people, and serve as evidence of the deep fraternal relations between the two countries, noting that Sudan enjoys full support from the Turkish people and special attention from President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

He added that it is Turkey’s duty to stand alongside Sudan, affirming at the same time that Turkey will remain close and ready to provide support whenever needed.

The Turkish ambassador concluded by thanking AFAD, the International Organization for Migration, and the Sudanese authorities in appreciation of their cooperation and joint efforts in supporting those affected.
