HRC Expected to Issue Resolution on Developments in El Obeid

Geneva – Sudanhorizon
The Human Rights Council is expected to hold a second session on Monday regarding the humanitarian situation in Sudan.

According to informed sources who spoke to Sudanhorizon, the Council is expected to issue a resolution on the city of El Obeid and its humanitarian conditions, based on briefings received from the High Commissioner for Human Rights and other UN officials during last Friday’s session. These officials confirmed that the city has been under siege by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia for several months.

Foreign Minister and Minister of International Cooperation, Ambassador Mohi El-Din Salem, called on countries concerned about the situation in El Obeid to take a more direct and effective stance by sending a strong and urgent message to the state sponsoring the RSF militia, demanding that it immediately cease supplying them with advanced military equipment and strategic drones used to bomb cities and civilian infrastructure.

The minister reminded the council that what happened in El Fasher clearly demonstrates that resolutions and statements alone mean nothing to a criminal militia that boasts of its contempt for the decisions of the international community and disregards them completely.
